Window dressing options

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful fabric patterns and designs.  There are so many small designers producing unique prints alongside all the large textile designers.  Many even offer colour matching for a truly bespoke service.

Whatever your budget I love helping to source the perfect choice which works within your room and also, importantly, lends itself to the style of window dressing.

Roman blinds

Roman blinds are a great solution for most windows; cost effective due to the relatively small amount of fabric needed, no issues with blocking any radiators or wall space and it’s easier to be braver with fabric choices when they are not as prominent in a room as curtains would be.  All the blinds I make are interlined as standard (a fleecy, insulating mid-layer) and can be blackout as well.

Styles: blinds can be stacked up neatly allowing maximum light into a room, or cascading to show off more of your fabric.  For rooms where the blinds get less use, relaxed linen blinds are also a popular choice.  Usually looking best inside a window recess, roman blinds can also be fitted outside the recess, in which case a fabric return over the end of the track or a pelmet are good options for a neater finish.  All the blind tracks are safety compliant with a choice of metal chains to suit the fabric.

Curtains

There is a huge amount of choice when it comes to choosing curtains for your home.  The more traditional options include wooden or wrought iron poles with pleated headings; double, triple and goblet.  In a more modern property it is worth considering the variety of tracks now available which will allow your curtains to be installed flush to the ceiling or double tracks which offer sheer curtains behind main curtains for privacy and light concerns.  Not limited to windows, curtains can also be great solutions for under countertops, doorways, basins and even bookshelves to hide clutter.

For large windows curtains can be quite an investment as the amount of fabric needed quickly adds up.  There is a huge range when it comes to fabric prices and there are cost effective ways to approach window dressings; it is worth looking at double width fabrics and also trims – if you want a more luxury finish, you can use a cheaper plain fabric then add trims or borders in other fabrics.

I predominantly use Cameron Fuller, JCS and Evans for tracks and poles; they offer a huge variety at mid-range prices.
